Marc Marquez's MotoGP Comeback: A Cautious Approach After Sepang Test (2026)

Marc Marquez's Cautious Return: A MotoGP Champion's Journey Back to the Top

In a thrilling turn of events, MotoGP legend Marc Marquez has made his comeback after a challenging 2025 season. But here's where it gets controversial: despite his impressive performance at the Sepang test, Marquez himself admits that he's not the fastest rider on the track.

Marquez, the reigning world champion, ended the Sepang test with a sense of satisfaction, having worked closely with Ducati. However, he's quick to point out that he needs to step up his game, as there are at least two or three riders who are faster than him.

The Sepang test marked a significant milestone for the 32-year-old, as it was his first MotoGP outing since an early-season collision in the Indonesian Grand Prix last October. Marquez topped the opening day and finished an impressive fourth overall across the three days, just behind Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marco Bezzecchi, and pacesetter Alex Marquez.

When evaluating the test, Marquez expressed his belief that everything is on the right track with Ducati's GP26. He shared his thoughts with MotoGP's After the Flag, stating, "Not bad. We tried a few things step by step, and we gathered valuable insights."

Marquez continued, "Let's see how the Thai test goes, and we'll keep pushing. Everything seems to be heading in the right direction. Of course, I need to improve, but we're taking it one step at a time."

He explained that he felt his best physically on day one in the afternoon, but as the days progressed, he started to feel worse. Today was a demanding day, but Marquez and his team put in a solid effort, completing a lot of laps. He acknowledged that he'll be tired tomorrow but plans to use the time to recover.

Marquez believes that the upcoming Buriram test will be even more crucial than Sepang in determining Ducati's starting position for the new season. He admits that he needs to find a way to improve his pace.

"The Thai test will be important, more so than this one, as we have the race just four days after the test. Here in October, the circuit seems to have less rubber, which makes it feel like a different track altogether."

Marquez expressed his happiness with the three days of testing, but he's not resting on his laurels. "We need to improve because there are riders who are faster than us."

And this is the part most people miss: Marquez even had a crash on day three at Sepang, sliding off his Ducati at Turn 1. He attributed this to trying a different aero package, which altered the bike's balance and caught him off guard.

So, what do you think? Is Marquez being too hard on himself? Or is he setting the bar high for his own performance? Let us know in the comments! We'd love to hear your thoughts on this MotoGP legend's comeback journey.
